Arthena Roper has stepped down from her position as a Jefferson County Board of Education board member. Roper resigned at the board meeting held last night, saying that she has accepted a position as County Magistrate for Jefferson County. She said she was unable to serve both on the board and as County Magistrate. Roper was elected to the school board in 2018. In the past, she also served as the cultural diversity facilitator and professional development coordinator with Jefferson County Schools for more than 14 years.
